Silver Expeditions
Active are an approved Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) provider for training, practice expeditions and qualifying expeditions in Scotland. We run Silver DofE open expeditions for small groups and bespoke packages for school and youth groups.
We offer canoeing, kayaking, walking, mountain biking and stand-up paddleboarding expeditions for groups of 4 or more.

Silver Expeditions
- Come and join one of our fantastic Silver DofE practice and qualifying expeditions in Scotland. We welcome bookings for groups of 4 or more.
- All of our Silver DofE expeditions are supervised and assessed by our team of professional, qualified instructors.
- Your group should arrive at Cairngorms Adventure Centre by 10:00 on day 1 and will finish by 16:00 on the last day.
- We offer back-to-back Silver DofE practice and qualifying expeditions.
- To book onto these expeditions, everyone in the group must be registered for DofE and have a DofE ID number.

What we Provide
What Do We Provide?
- Pre-Silver DofE Expedition planning and advice.
- Expedition equipment (if required).
- We are an Approved DofE Provider with accredited supervisors and assessors for both practice and qualifying expeditions.
- Transport from our outdoor centre to the expedition start point and transport back at the end of the expedition.
- Additional skills training days prior to the expeditions (please contact us for further details and prices).

We can provide the following group kit if required for your Silver DofE open expeditions in Scotland:
- Tents
- Inflatable camping mats
- Stoves, cutlery and crockery
- Expedition rucksacks or dry bags (dependent on mode of travel)
- Group first aid kits
- Maps
- Technical & safety kit such as buoyancy aids & helmets (dependent on mode of travel)
- Waterproofs and boots

What does it entail
What Does It Cost?
- Training and practice Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) expeditions in Scotland – this expedition involves one training day followed immediately by a two day and two night practice expedition in your chosen mode of transport (walk, sea kayak, bike or canoe). All 3 nights will be wild camping.
- Silver qualifying expeditions in Scotland – three days and two nights in your chosen mode of transport. Full supervision and assessment will be provided throughout the journey and a final report given in accordance with DofE guidelines.
- The training / practice expedition and qualifying expedition can be booked back to back with one rest day in-between. If you book both the practice and qualifying expeditions.

- Day 1 – Training Day.
- Day 2 – Practice expedition starts.
- Day 3 – Practice expedition concludes.
- Day 4 – Rest Day.
- Day 5 – Qualifying expedition starts.
- Day 6 – Qualifying expedition continues.
- Day 7 – Qualifying expedition concludes.
