River Oich Paddling Trip
All of our paddling trips on the river Oich start and finish in the great Glen. We normally start at the end of Loch Oich where it meets the river and paddle down to Fort Augustus ending on the magnificent shores of Loch Ness. Maybe you will even see Nessie!
We offer this river paddling trip on the Oich in rafts, sit on top kayaks and duckies (see below for what a duckie is). We will select the craft most suited to the river levels on the day but we do take your preference into account if you have one so feel free to select on the drop down menu below the calendar or just drop us a ring and we can chat through some options to tailor the day to you.
Duckies – what are they?
Duckies are essentially an inflatable canoe. The boat sits two or three people and you can paddle them using either a canoe or kayak paddle. They are very stable but in the event of capsizing they are easy to climb back into without having to go ashore. The boats sit close to the water and are self bailing so no need to keep emptying if you happen to take a swim!
They are a wonderful combination of rafts mixed with canoes and provide the best of both worlds for river descents. They are nice and close to the water meaning a fun bouncy ride down all the rapids.
Duckies are an all year round activity. River Oich paddling trip conditions can vary with the seasons. The conditions are generally pleasant in Summer with warmer temperatures while the higher water levels are normally during the Spring/Autumn.
