University & College Group Outdoor Activities
We offer outdoor activities in Scotland like kayaking trips & winter skills courses for universities and colleges across the whole of the UK. As part of the booking you will stay at the Cairngorms Adventure centre in Newtonmore where we can accommodate up to 77 people. For those interested in pursuing a career in the outdoors after university or college, we also offer Outdoor Instructor training courses . Based in the Cairngorms National Park in the very centre of Scotland we have perfect access to any and all locations.
If you are wanting to book accommodation only, and do your own thing then we can easily sort you out. On top of this, we would be more than happy to recommend rivers, routes and mountains for you & your group. If you are after professional coaching and guidance then we can provide it in any of the activities we offer; the more popular choices for universities and colleges tend to be winter skills, kayaking and Outdoor Instructor Training Courses.
A hub for outdoor adventure activities, Cairngorms Adventure Centre not only provides colleges and universities with outdoor adventure activities, but is home to worldwide recognised Instructor Training Courses and adventure journeys taking you across Scotland by foot, bike and boat.
The Cairngorms Adventure Centre sleeps up to 75 people over two floors. The centre has a large dining room, two kitchens for catering of groups along with social lounges for reviews, planning of trips, relaxing and self reflection time.
We do appreciate that universities and colleges can be very lively and we can assure you our staff will be tolerant of that and will endeavour to ensure you have a fantastic time on your trip to Scotland.
However we do have a code of conduct as the very nature of our activities involves risk and requires participants to be fully functioning and aware- otherwise we increase the risk of a serious accident. With this in mind, we ask people to turn up for activities in a fit state otherwise they may not be able to participate.
Normally Universities and colleges coming up for outdoor activities bring quite a lot of people so you would probably want to book either fully exclusive use of the centre, or exclusive use of half the centre.

- Half Centre S/C – up to 35 beds £850 Per Night.

On the training course, will get to develop your winter skills and learn new techniques. These include navigation, use of crampons & ice axes, walking safely in the snow, snow-pack analysis, & avalanche awareness/evaluation.
We offer 2-day and 4-day winter skills courses as well. On our 4-day course, we might be able to incorporate an overnight snowhole expedition, weather and conditions permitting. Bivvy bags, 4-season sleeping bags and 4-season sleep mats would be required.

We can tailor kayaking trips for universities and colleges as appropriate to the groups ability levels. We can take beginners, intermediate or advanced paddlers on flat or moving water depending on what is appropriate. For those wishing to paddle harder or more serious rivers under our instruction we would need to have evidence of your ability levels prior or have seen you on the water i.e. a two day course – day one might be a simple river and if appropriate day two we could do something more adventurous.
Kayaking trips in Scotland are fun for all – whatever paddling ability your college or university has, we can tailor a trip to it. Our introduction to kayaking days start on flat water where you will learn the foundations to paddling the craft. This will then allow you to control your kayak and set out on a short journey, possibly down an easy stretch of river. These days are suitable for individuals and groups.
Coaching & Qualifications
We offer coaching and developmental days & trips for universities or colleges with previous experience in kayaking. This can be on flat water and or moving water for those looking to develop their skills further. If you are looking to work towards the BC awards for personal paddling this is something we offer. We normally run these sessions at our local venues such as the Spey and Loch Insh, but we can tailor these days to suit your ability and will go wherever is most appropriate for the weather, group and award you are aiming to develop towards to obtain. Please head to our courses and training for more info.
